Heirloom 73 (2073) Jewelry
was founded in 1973 by Murry & Mildred Shapiro in
Forest Hills, New York. From a young age, Murry always
had a fascination with vintage jewelry. Murry and Mildred
started studying and collecting antique jewelry, waiting
for the right time to go into manufacturing. Murry discovered
that this interest in jewelry of past was shared by
other consumer’s who were looking for classic
designs that look like they came from Grandma's jewelry
box. Murry’s reproductions were so meticulous
that many people thought accurates.
In researching vintage designs Murry
and Mildred became fascinated with jewelry
made with marcasite. Marcasite jewelry first become
popular during the nineteenth century, partly because
of Queen Victoria’s use during her mourning for
her husband. The problem was, other companies were manufacturing
marcasite, what could Murry do to stand out from the
crowd? Murry found his answer when customers would come
into his showroom with missing marcasites in their jewelry.
He then decided to start a new practice by prong setting
his marcasite. There would be no more gluing the marcasite
in as was done previously in the industry. The marcasite
would then be secure like a diamond, from now on it
would be prong set".
This family oriented company, which
thrives on classic pieces and showcases turn of the
century charm, hasn't lost sight of the new and popular.

Soon after, the companies growth prompted
a move into a Manhattan showroom. The business wasn’t
the only thing expanding; Murry’s family was also
growing. It was no longer just Murry and Mildred in
the “family business” his son, Drew, was
invloved also. While attending Fordham University and
John Jay College Drew also found time to work in the
family business.
Heirloom 73 eventually formed a division “Vintage
Creations”. Vintage Creations would be
the division that specialized in the marcasite jewelry.
Drew eventually joined the company full time in 1979.
A few years later Vintage Creations
made the big move to its plant in Freehold, NJ. Drew’s
capacity for networking in the industry and problem
solving in the company kept the family business growing
by leaps and bounds, making Vintage Creations a leading
manufacturer of marcasite jewelry.
A keen sense of what was to come enabled the company
to be at forefront of the Swarvoski Crystal craze. Drew
had a vision and Jenna Nicole was born. He designed
a jewelry line with a unique twist, sterling silver
and prong-set Swarvoski crystals.
